2 Day Scenic Adventure Package

 IMPORTANT: Your adventure starts from the Christchurch train station, if you are landing by airplane you will need to organise your own transport here so make sure you have arranged this prior booking your Adventure Package.

Your Adventure Begins on the TranzApline!

Day 1 - Morning

On the TranzAlpine you’ll experience the South Island’s striking natural landscape between Christchurch and Greymouth. Along this journey you’ll see epic vistas, travel the edges of the ice-fed Waimakariri River, traverse the Southern Alps, and see miles of native beech forest.

The TranzAlpine is one of the world's great train journeys covering 223 kilometres (139 miles) one-way, taking just under 5 hours. You’ll traverse the majestic Canterbury Plains, to the backdrop of the mighty Southern Alps - the journey of a lifetime.

 

The carriages on the TranzAlpine are designed to glide through the heart of New Zealand's beautiful scenery, bringing you an intimate view of our epic landscapes through huge panoramic windows, from the comfort of your seat.

This journey is all about relaxing and what could be more relaxing than sitting back with a freshly brewed specialty tea or barista coffee married with a sumptuous cake? Whatever it is that makes you smile inside, you are likely to find it in the licensed Café Carriage.

The Café Carriage serves a broad menu of delights. From sweet or savoury snacks to tasty and substantial meals. Hot or cold, for young or old, you’re sure to find something that tingles your taste buds and satisfies your appetite. 

Open Air Viewing Carriage

Nothing gets you closer to the great New Zealand scenery than getting outdoors in the Viewing Carriages. These carriages have open sides and allow you to be genuinely outdoors while traveling across our great plains, through our dense forests, along our gorgeous coastlines and over our spectacular mountain passes.

 

The Outdoor viewing carriage also provides uninterrupted views making the ideal spot for some amazing photos.

Connect with the Histories

Connect with the histories, legends and myths of New Zealand by tuning into the audio commentary system. Packed with a seamless stream of stories, narratives and facts about the places outside your window, which playback as you pass by them.

Baggage Allowance

  • One item of checked luggage per person with a maximum weight of 32kgs 

    • Bags weighing over 23kg may require your assistance during loading/unloading

    • Bags over 32kg will not be accepted and must be repacked

    • Repack bags can be purchased for $10 (in addition to the $20 extra bag charge)

  • A maximum of two additional items of baggage per person may be purchased for $20 per piece

  • Maximum volume per bag is 200 linear cm (this is calculated by adding the height, length and width of the bag together together)

The Adventure continues with On Yer Bike !

Day 1 - Afternoon

After you collect your luggage from the train, you'll have a short time to check out the local Visitor Centre, where you will be picked up by one of the friendly staff at On Yer Bike Adventures!

Time to Suit Up

Once you arrive you’ll be kitted out in a full outfit of weather protective clothing capable of keeping you clean and dry in any weather. After a short briefing and safety talk you’re on your way with one of On Yer Bikes friendly guide to explore some of the most excitingly technical tracks in New Zealand.

Lead Guide Mike

Legendary lead guide Mike knows a thing or two when it comes to having fun! Mike has spent 20 years creating an off-road adventure playground situated on 250 acres of privately owned farm, and stunningly beautiful native rainforest.

 

Mike is the 3rd generation on the land, and has extensive knowledge of the rich cultural history that surrounds this beautiful property that he is all too willing to share with people.

No Experience Necessary

Going Off-Road at On Yer Bike has never been easier with On Yer Bikes automatic 4-wheel Drive Buggies you can experience the winding trails, mud and scenery from the comfort of your seat, these incredibly built machines do all the work for you!

 

Take your own machine, or share in a Double Seater Buggy or a 4-Seater Buggy. The choice is yours!

Refreshment Stop

After a good hour of riding, you’ll stop and enjoy a cuppa, biscuit and a yarn on top of the lookout, while the tour tells you a bit out the history of the land which has been pasted down the generations since 1917!

 

After your quick refreshment you'll be feeling confident and re-energized to tackle some more changeling areas - we save the best for the end!

 

The Mighty Hagglund

Upon return the guide will help you with your gear, download your Photos and Video footage to USB (a free inclusion with your package).

 

If you added the 1/2 hour Hagglund Ride to your Adventure Package, you're about to go for the ride of your life!

 

The Hagglund takes you through places you wouldn't dare to venture! Relax in the comfort of your seat and stay clean and dry while the Hagglund gets down and dirty! Once you're back, you can either check out the amazing Quilt Shop on site, have a coffee, or have our staff take you straight back into town where we drop you off at your accommodation.

Day 1 - Evening

 

At the Kingsgate

After your tour, one of On Yer Bike friendly staff will transport you to the Kingsgate Hotel. It's now completely up to you how you’d like to spend your evening, you may wish to enjoy a beverage at the bar, or enjoy a meal at the hotel restaurant.

 

Your Room

Your room is located on the ground or one of the first floors, your 17 sqm Standard Room offers access to an outside area or balcony. Complete with ample amenities. This is room comes as standard with your adventure package, but can also be upgraded to a Superior room or Suite.

Bar & Restaurant

Jimmy Cook's Kiwi Kitchen is open every day for breakfast and dinner, a convenient way to enjoy some fine food during your stay.

 

The Albion Bar As a part of the original hotel that was built here in 1906, Albion Bar has a long and storied history.

Greymouth  Flood Wall

The Kingsgate hotel is conveniently positioned right across the road from the Floodwall. Built in 1988 to protect the town of Greymouth from serious flooding, this short 10-minute riverside walk along the floodwall also makes an excellent evening stroll.

This Greymouth bar is beautifully preserved, original decor lend it a charming ambience, and for somewhere to relax before dinner, after dinner, or both.

Breakfast

Arise and shine! You've got the morning to explore the town of Greymouth. Enjoy a Cooked Breakfast at your hotel which can be pre-booked with your Adventure Package, or if you'd prefer there are some great eating places to discover nearby your hotel.

Check-out time at your hotel is 10:00 am, so if you're not planning on coming back make sure to bring your luggage with you.

Quirky Wee Area

About a minute walk from your hotel you'll find the Town Square, which offers a nice place to sit and enjoy a coffee or meal from one of the dinning places in the area. The Historic Gallery is also in the area if you fancy taking a look at some art. The Clock Tower is also right across the road from here.

Day 2 - Afternoon

IMPORTANT: This section of the itinerary only applies if you purchased a return ticket when booking your Adventure Package, please check your itinerary to confirm this extra was booked.

Train Ride Home

Take one last look around town after lunch before heading towards the Greymouth Rail Station where your ride to Christchurch awaits. The easiest way to get there is to simply follow the Flood Wall path east towards the Cobden Bridge, its about a 5-10 minute walk.

 

You'll capture the incredible landscape and scenery at a whole new angle as you venture back through the gorgeous farmlands, mountainsides and rivers.

 

Around 6:30 pm you'll arrive in Christchurch with an indescribable satisfaction from your adventure and memories that will last a lifetime!
